Design for AM

Introduction

The purpose of our design for AM team is to support industry in the adoption of AM from the applications perspective. To this purpose, we provide support in the understanding of the capabilities and limitations of AM by the end-to-end design and development of applications.

Support in the assessment of AM suitability for the manufacturing of products in a portfolio and the identification of the most suitable technology is also an area that our team focuses on.

We help in the implementation of AM by the development and delivery of training on the different aspects of AM product development, such as reverse engineering, process down-selection, design innovation, or design for manufacture. Furthermore, we provide unbiased advice.

Another area where our team is especially active is in the qualification of AM by the development of design procedures and benchmarking geometries and by participation in standardisation committees and collaborative projects.

Our vision is a world where designers have the knowledge, methods and design tools to unlock the full potential of AM for their products.

In terms of the software tools, one of our key objectives is to provide unbiased advice. Therefore, we have available the most up to date tools and keep scouting the software landscape. Sometimes we signpost to a service provider if we identify a tool that could provide a better outcome.
