Summary

This project established design rules for metal AM (laser and electron beam powder bed fusion). It also covered post-processing and inspection considerations. There were three deliverables for this project:

• An AM design guide providing detail on the various geometric and process considerations the designer should be aware of.
• A report on the available software using for the design of AM components and the interaction between data workflows.
• A practical evaluation of different STL software packages (Magics, Limitstate Fix, Netfabb Basic) to compare mesh fixing ability.
