Improving the UK supply chain (DRAMA)

Enabling additive manufacturing for aerospace

Digital Reconfigurable AM Facilities for Aerospace (DRAMA)

Based at the National Centre for Additive Manufacturing, DRAMA is a collaborative three-year project running from November 2017 to October 2020, funded by the UK government and part of the Aerospace Technology Institute's research program.

It will open up and de-risk the adoption of additive manufacturing and will establish world-class additive manufacturing ‘test bed’ facilities and a corresponding digital-twin virtual environment for the aerospace industry and its supply chain.

The project has a range of leading consortium partners throughout the supply chain, alongside an influential Steering Group.

DRAMA will:

  • Reduce the cost and risk of set up of AM technology via the ‘test bed’ facility being developed
  • Reduce the time and cost of planning and validation with digital twin technology, developing right-first-time deployment
  • Develop a robust UK supply chain for the aerospace industry
  • Showcase market-leading AM equipment and services
  • Create a UK AM knowledge base
  • Establish the UK as a leader in AM technology
